HID is also a gas discharged light in which an electric arc embedded between tungsten electrodes is placed in a transparent arc tube produces light. This arc tube contains metal salts and gas. Gas is mainly responsible for initially striking the arc, and once it is started, heating and evaporation of salts produces plasma which enhances the intensity of the light produced by the arc. It also consumes very less power.
